Summer of 2008
Session 1:  This session I got to work with an amazing group.  I worked with two counselors in particular, Wesley and Melissa.  Each counselor had their own group of around 15 children a piece, but since we stayed together throught the entire day, we had one massive 30 little girl group.  It seemed slightly insane at first, but it got easier.  I was a JC (junior counselor) for both of the groups, but I had more of a counselor experience due to the fact that our group was way too large for just two people.  This was a good experience for me because it not only allowed me to experience being a group leader instead of an instructor of a class for the first time, but it gave me a chance to show off a little to my boss.  I had always hated helping lead classes in specific.  It is quite a bit more enjoyable to stay with the same group for the whole session.  Melissa and Wesley were amazing too.  They are really fun to talk to and were very supportive of my efforts to become a counselor instead of a JC.

Session 4:  I only worked for one week this session.  I just got back from Spain, but I figured a little extra work wouldn't hurt.  I got stuck with Wesley again.  This time  we had an all boys, sports group.  All of the kids were pretty well behaved.  We had a fun time talking about pokemon cards and what not.  They were really easy to get along with and I fit right in with them despite the fact that they hadn't known me until the second week of the session.  I'm still a JC.  Darn.

Session 5:  It's the last session of the summer.  Sort of weird.  Compared to the 10 weeks I put in last summer, this summer seemed like nothing.  Melissa requested for me to be in her group. YAY!  We are reunited once again.  This session, we had a girls group again.  They were pretty good kids.   A few were a little crazy, but manageable.  We had a really relaxing shedule for the last session, so it went by super quickly.  It was a great summer and I met a lot of new people that I know I will be friends with next year and maybe even outside of camp.  Hopefully I have a job offer again next year as a full on counselor.  I think that my efforts this year proved that I am mature enough and able to run a group on my own.
